Interview with Laura, a 23-year-old Japanese-American graduate student
In
the United States today, there is great interest in the immigrant
experience. Do immigrants feel like they are “Americans”?
Here
is an interview with Laura, a graduate student from the southern state
of Alabama and now studying in Washington, D.C. Laura talks about her
own experience as an immigrant, and her ties to two cultures. Why does
she say she can never be President of the United States?

Podcast: The Shapes Game, by Maryanne Datesman, one of the American Ways authors
How does it feel to be part of a group, or to be left out?
In
this podcast, Maryanne Datesman describes a game that can be used at
the beginning of a class, or in a setting where you want to discuss
group dynamics. We are not certain of the origin of the game, but Jodi
Crandall, another American Ways author, learned it from Sandra Mumford,
a cross-cultural trainer.
